Bidh deagh mheasgachadh de cheòl is ealain ann bho na seachd choimhearsnachdan agus bho luchd-ealain òga le Gàidhlig, agus bùithtean-obrach a chòrdas ris a h-uile duine. Le bhith an lùib fèis mar seo tha sinn air obrachadh le ar nàbaidhean eadar nàiseanta, a thaobh na fèis agus am prògram air mhuinntireas, a tha a’ toirt oirnn a bhith mothachail mar a tha sinn ag obair còmhla thairis air crìochan chultarail agus chànanan gus barrachd cheanglaichean a thogail agus cothroman fhàs.”

A bharrachd air na fèisean, chuir gach coimhearsnachd neach-ealain air siubhal agus thug iad aoigheachd do neach-ealain eile a chaidh a thaghadh ann an gairm fhosgailte. Stolen Festival bannners located!

Two banners advertisng the Skye Festival disappeared in mid July. We checked with HC roads and BEAR Scotland, who are repsonsible for the main A87 trunk road through Skye and neither knew anything about it. So we reported the theft to the police. Then a sharp-eyed audience member reported they had seen a BEAR Scotland van removing the banners. It turned out they were from the Fort William depot, not the local one, and did not have the courtesy to tell us, depsite the contact details on the banner! The banners are now back. Thanks to the Ardelve BEAR Scotland mananger who has been very helpful in this. Our theft reporter got two free festival tickets.

Getting to the Skye Festival

There are several ways to get to the Skye Festival in south Skye. The free Skye Bridge is the obvious way but many of you will choose to come by the scenic route over the sea from Mallaig to Skye. You may have read that there has been a certain amount of chaos on this route this summer, after Calmac decided to take away our special ferry and replace it with boats that are proving totally inadequate. One is so small if cannot land at very low tides and the other is so large that it cannot enter Mallaig in the slightest bit of wind!

It is essential that you book, and then keep checking and confirming. There are two sets of timetables – one for days with low tides. You can find them on https://www.calmac.co.uk/mallaig-armadale-skye-ferry-summer-timetable and https://www.calmac.co.uk/service-changes/mallaig-armadale-tidal-amendments

If you have any difficulty with the Calmac ferry service, do let us know. We can’t give you any daily advice on the current state of the service – go to www.calmac.co.uk for that – but we can offer general help to make sure you get to the Festival.
