SEALL is a community-focused performing arts promotion charity on the Isle of Skye, bringing high-quality performing arts and wellbeing to rural communities and visitors. SEALL is recognised as a leader in rural cultural development in the Highlands. SEALL is registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee 165147, with Charitable Status in Scotland SC 024859
SEALL was established in 1991 and our name means Look or See in Gaelic and pronounced “Shall”. Our ambition at the outset was to put Skye firmly on the map as an arts and cultural destination and to celebrate the wealth of home grown talent in the area. To date, we have welcomed over 5000 artists to the area and sold over 125,000 tickets. SEALL also produces the Fèis an Eilein – the Skye Festival, a Skye-wide summer programme. This was named as Highland Community Initiative of the Year in 2014. In late 2015 SEALL at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig was named as Venue of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Award.
In 2018 SEALL launched the first SEALL Festival of Small Halls, the first of its kind in Europe and won the community project of the year gong in the 2019 MG Alba Scottish Traditional Music Awards. The second Festival of Small halls started on 22 November 2019 with SEALL’s celebration of its 2,000th event and spread to more village halls and communities.
Our funding
We are able to achieve everything we do through a mix of funding from Creative Scotland, Event Scotland and other funders, ticket income, area business support, donations for our raffles, ticket sales and memberships. We do everything we can to keep our ticket prices as low as possible to open up access to events as widely as we can.
We are supported by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Sligachan Hotel, our wonderful small halls and many other Skye and Raasay businesses, organisations and individuals.
“Congratulations for all you do for Skye and for Scotland”
Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, 3 November 2017, on opening SEALL new Office ‘The Green Room’ as a new Cultural hub for Skye.
