‘The Pirates of Penzance’

Inner Sound present the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta

Inner Sound are delighted to be back at SMO again performing one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular operas.

The Pirates of Penzance centres around Frederic, who, having reached his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of pirates. He meets Mabel, the daughter of a Major-General, and they fall in love. Frederic soon learns, however, that he was born on the 29th of February, and so, technically, he is only 4. His indenture specifies that he remain apprenticed to the pirates until his “twenty-first birthday”, meaning that he must serve another 63 years, bound by his own sense of duty.

Inner Sound is one of Scotland’s leading amateur G and S production companies. Anne Lampard MBE has for years been training generations of singers, some of whom now work in the professional operatic circuit.
