Sohie Sophabulous Step Dance Weekend

We are sorry we have had to cancel this weekend of workshops.

We needed a minimum of 12 to make this viable and our bookings a week after the deadline fall well short of this. We like to try new ideas and innovations suring the Festival, but sometimes it just does not work.

We would be delighted to hear your suggestions about holding more step-dance weekends: – time of year, suitable price structure etc. email us on info@seall.co.uk

Seall are delighted to be delivering a Sophabulous Step Dance Weekend with workshops led by dancer Sophie Stephenson. Sophie specialises in a close to the floor style of percussive Scottish step dance. She is dedicated to promoting and passing on the tradition and has collaborated on creative projects which have led her to teach and perform at festivals throughout Scotland and internationally in Ireland, France, Spain, Norway, Canada and America. (www.sophabulous.co.uk)

For this weekend Sophie will be joined by fiddler player and step dancer Sarah-Jayne Shankland. The workshops will cover a variety of traditional strathspey, jig and reel steps. Whether you are trying step dance for the first time or have danced before and are looking to learn new steps and work on technique, the course will cater to different ages and levels of ability.
The course will encourage participants to make the steps their own; to improvise, experiment and explore the creative and rhythmical possibilities of step dance both in solo performance and social dance. There will also be opportunity for discussion on the wider context of percussive dance and questions about the cultural context and evolution of step dance in Cape Breton and Scotland.
“Sophie is a passionate, dynamic and lively step dancer and performer. I love her workshops as she is always encouraging and caring to all the participants and is confident in teaching beginner to advanced level dancers, both kids and adults”. (Kae Sakurai)
