HMS Pinafore
Skye-based ‘Inner Sound’ Operatic Company
Captain Corcoran cordially invites you to the poop deck for a tot of delicious musical ‘grog’. Set in the roaring 20’s, this is a fully staged performance of the classic Gilbert and Sullivan opera, starring young Skye based singers and a sparkling chorus of burly sailors and delightful flapper girls!
Directed by Ann Lampard and Tom Colwell, the cast and crew set off on a jolly and rollicking voyage. It’s all aboard the HMS Pinafore for an evening of nautical fun, vocal distinction and delectable costumes.

Alasdair Fraser, a Scot living in California, has been teaching fiddle at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Short Courses for 20 years. Natalie Haas is from California and is re-discovering the cello’s place in Scottish traditional music. They are joined by guest artists from the annual fiddle summer school on Skye.

New Rope String Band
Two folk from the Old Rope String Band join forces with two old-time musicians.They sing, dance and play their little hearts out on fiddles, guitar, piano accordion, mandolin and anything else that comes to hand.
But people just laugh at them! Then, when they struggle to describe the New Rope experience, they drag their friends along so that they too can witness the brilliant spectacle.

Welcome to the world of whisky! Accomplished Glenfinnan musician and Blazin’ Fiddler, Iain MacFarlane created this stunning show of music, song and visuals celebrating whisky for the Blas Festival 2009. Gaelic and English song, traditional and contemporary Highland music, stories, recitations and anecdotes. Iain is joined by his father, Charlie MacFarlane, and musicians Ingrid Henderson and Ewan Robertson.
‘The String Contingent.’ open the concert. They are an Edinburgh Australian traditional band who combine the clarity and precision of baroque chamber music with the raw excitement and intensity of Scottish fiddle and Bluegrass.

Gaelic Voices ~ Guthan Gàidhlig Gaelic poetry and contemporary music Gaelic Voices ~ Guthan Gàidhlig is a collaboration between Gaelic and English speaking poets and contemporary and traditional musicians from across Scotland. Combining the visuals of drama and the choral aspects of song and live music to create a hybrid of performance poetry inspired by Gaelic myths and legends.
Performed by Bafta award winner Aonghas Padraig Caimbeul (Angus Peter Campbell), Alasdair Taylor, Ashby McGowan, Tracey Patrick and Wendy Miller with music from Noel Bridgeman and Luke Taylor.

Celebrated local piper Angus Nicolson launches his astonishing CD ‘Lasses That Baffle Us’ with an extraordinary collection of whalers, blazin’ fiddlers, wayward boys, faeries and the Royal Saasaig Trombone Appreciation Society.

Wednesday 18 August at 8 pm Diciadain 18 Lùnastal Piping Concert with Patrick Molard
A joint Fèis an Eilein, Skye Piping Society concert Patrick Molard was born in 1951 in St Malo, Brittany. He started with the Scottish Highland Bagpipe in 1965 with the Bagad Quic en Groigne (St Malo) and the An Ere Bagad from Rennes, where he met Jakez Pincet, his first pipe master, who enabled him to go on to study with the two great Scottish pipers Robert Brown & Robert Nicol, both Queen Elizabeth’s personal pipers. Patrick will be joined by some of the great names in Highland bagpipe playing.

On Friday 21 August 2009 Mhairi Hall Trio launched their traditional music album ‘Cairngorm’ at the top of CairngormMountain. They transported a grand piano up the mountain during the day and that evening performed their album to a full Ptarmigan venue and a reindeer or two! Mhairi, pianist and composer is joined by exceptional drummer and percussionist Fraser Stone and wonderful guitarist Michael Bryan.
Various local musicians will open the evening.

A Fèis an Eilein twist to Burns’ poem
Music inspired by a ballad of supernatural shape-changing, composed and performed by three habitually genre-defying musicians. A response to, rather than a setting of, the powerful ballad ‘Tam Lin’, this hour-long suite proves an unpredictable delight, featuring Dick Lee on clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano sax and whistle, John Kenny on trombones and recorders, and pianist James Ross. Supported by local musicians.

Blas Festival ~ Eilidh Mackenzie Band
‘Saoghal Sona’ or ‘Wonderful World’ is a new commission by the Black Isle based bàrd Eilidh Mackenzie. Saoghal Sona is a show of new songs written about news events over the past year. But instead of the usual doom and gloom which we get from our media, all the songs tell a story of joy! With performances from some of our top news readers, musicians and singers, this show will definitely leave a smile on your face.
The show is opened by the up and coming young band Kilairum. Winners of Danny Kyle’s Open Stage 2010, Kilairum are a contemporary folk-fusion band, incorporating both jazz and traditional styles into their music.
