SEALL is delighted to present An Ceòl air Feadh na Fèinne – The Music of What Happens.
This is an innovative tri-lingual performance bringing together storytelling, singing and music.
Focussing on Sgeulachdan na Fèinne (Tales of the Fianna) that are deeply rooted in Gaelic culture in Scotland and Ireland, the piece shares epic stories of some of the main heroes and legends. The songs and stories of the Fianna have been at the heart of the shared Gaelic cultural tradition in Scotland and Ireland for centuries, with the legendary characters of Fionn MacCumhnaill and his warrior band – the Fianna – Diarmaid and Gràinne and others, who were well known across Gaelic society until fairly recently.
The project, supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig through Maoin Colm Cille and administrated by TRACs, brings together five outstanding musicians and storytellers from Scotland and Ireland. They collaborated initially in Argyll and latterly in Donegal. During the residency in Argyll the group explored and recorded eight multi-art form tracks of song, storytelling and music in Gàidhlig, Gaeilge and English.
Further development at a Donegal residency enabled the group to shape the piece into a 55min theatre performance incorporating different threads from the mythical and legends tales and songs woven with authentic musical accompaniment. The group performed at The International Scottish Storytelling Festival 2023 and Celtic Connections 2024.
The performance appeals to people with an interest in the legendary tales of the Fèinne which are central to Gaelic culture in Scotland and Ireland. An Ceòl air Feadh na Fèinne – The Music of What Happens! is a first step into the fantastical world of mythical monsters and magical Gaelic superheroes. Gráinne Holland is a Belfast-born singer, songwriter, storyteller, and media producer. Educated through the medium of Irish, she was immersed in Irish traditional arts, which inspired her love of folklore, mythology, and music. Màiri MacMillan’s Uist style of Gaelic singing, honed over many years sings songs of many genres including these ancient lays. Martin MacIntyre is an award-winning author, poet and storyteller in Gaelic and English. He has worked across these genres for over twenty years. The backdrop of spine tingling expressive music is provided by world renowned traditional musicians, Ireland’s Eamon Doorley and Scotland’s Mhairi Hall.
