Highland fiddle player Duncan Chisholm needs little introduction to followers of Scots trad music. Hailed as one of Scotland’s most recognised and accomplished fiddle players and composers, Duncan’s music contains the rarest of chemistries, a glorious combination of invention, tenderness and passion.
Born and brought up near Inverness, Duncan has spent most of his life developing his unique musical voice. Fiddle playing at its best, Duncan’s feather-light handling of dynamics and ornamentation, allied with his pure-distilled tone, lend his characteristic spine-tingling magic to his music.
With such a personal interest in and connection to the Highland landscape that so deeply inspires him, Duncan has worked hard to instil great pride and passion into recording musical masterpieces influenced by Scotland’s wild places and he brings his latest masterpiece, Black Cuillin, to its heartland on Skye for a very special concert in Elgol, just across Loch Scavaig with the iconic mountain range in view.
For this unique and very special performance, Duncan will be joined on stage by eight of Scotland’s finest traditional and classical musicians: Ross Ainslie, Donald Hay, Jarlath Henderson, Megan Henderson, Sorren MacLean, Su-a Lee, Hamish Napier and Innes Watson.
This highly anticipated new album is already garnering rave reviews. It draws inspiration from the mountain wilderness on the Isle of Skye. Richly evocative, it tells of a dream journey through the landscape over a day and a night. This is the music of the high mountains, the music of the skies and the stars.
